Wishing friends and family of everyone @sthwilford a very Happy Easter!
All Key Stage 2 children have a weekly French Lesson with Mrs Grant. Children enjoy listening to French and are always keen to have a go at speaking French in the classroom! There are some outstanding performers and amazing accents to be heard throughout the school! They also practise reading familiar French words and phrases and perform simple, guided writing tasks. Spanish is also on the menu at South Wilford! Mrs Aldridge teaches the language to a group of keen linguists at Spanish club.
Every language topic covered also involves looking at aspects of French life and culture and comparing it with our own. We have had a link with a school in Nantes for the last six years. Each year, the children in one class are paired with the children in Mme Bonnet's class in Nantes. They exchange letters, cards and gifts and even speak to their pen friends via video-conference three times during the year! A very exciting, if a little nerve-wracking, experience for children and staff!
We have recently started working with the story 'Va-t'en, Grand Monstre Vert!' with Years 3 and 4. Working with stories, introduces the children to a wide range of useful vocabulary and gives them the opportunity to further extend their language skills. Year 5 and 6 children have been learning all about 'La Météo', and have, recently, delivered a simple weather forecast in French!
