March 2020 Update
We are so lucky to have the most beautiful playground areas possibly in Nottingham.
During the last two weeks, some of the children of keyworkers have helped to build the new willow igloo on the edge of the playground! It still needs some finishing off at the top and some artificial grass to go in but we have been given some logs to sit on!
Well done to the helpers, and thank you – it looks great!
This year we have been designing and planning an Outside Cathedral Area for our field! We’re hoping that these areas will be stationed around the tree area and other safe areas around our buildings and that we will encourage not only children to use them at playtimes, butforadults to look and do some of the activities with their child before and after school too.
We still need some resources: Please let the Office know if you have any we can use.
- Circular Sawn tree logs
- Wooden pallets in good condition
- Emulsion paint and brushes, to paint palletsThese are being created and set up during the Summer Term by the Holy Heroes and last year’s Prayer Pals. We are hoping that many of the areas and structures will be semi-permanent, meaning they can be developed and adapted long term. These are some of the plans in progress:
This will have key BIG QUESTIONS scorched/burnt onto wooden plaques, which will hang/stand in the tunnel. The tunnel will have a mat to stop muddy uniforms! The idea is that, under instruction, the children and some willing parents will construct this. Unfortunately, it cannot be delivered until November because of the growing season.
STORY DOME or IGLOO
Similar to the growing Prayer Tunnel – a semi-sealed off area for children to sit in, have stories read to them, tell stories or have discussions. – Endless possibilities. Again, not available until November.
Large Jenga blocks have been bought, and the HH and PP have painted people values on each brick. The normal game of Jenga can be played; suggestions for Wise and Foolish man type houses will be available; also, photos of constructions already made will be there for groups to try and replicate. This should provide a fun playtime activity on the playground whist hopefully reminding children of Christian Values and even promoting some good discussions!
This will be a corner wall about 5 feet tall, staked into the ground, consisting of 2 garden panels. Initially a bucket of cut ribbons and waterproof felt tips will be put out each morning so that children can write or draw then tie the names of people and situations they would like prayed for onto the prayer wall.
Some cuttings of Contortia Willow have been cut and cemented into a garden pot. Children will be encouraged to draw things on leaf shapes to which they can say thank you to God for. These can be tied onto the branches.
I AM’ LOGS
We would like to ask the parents if anyone is able to get us some approx 30cm high cut logs, that we can place in a fairly large circle. On each log the Holy Heroes and PP will paint one of Jesus’ I am statements (Good Shepherd; Light of the World etc) The logs can be just sat on but there will be suggestions for games to play on them too. An alternative might be old tyres??
We are also hoping to find some Wooden Pallets for children to whitewash and paint encouraging verses on. These could be used for propping up around the outside area of front and back of school or sitting on.
THE HH AND PP ARE INSPIRED BY ANYTHING, SO (WITHOUT BECOMING A DUMPING GROUND), WE’D LIKE TO ASK PARENTS IF THEY HAVE ANY OTHER FINISHED WITH OR UNUSED OBJECTS THAT WE COULD USE TO INSPIRE REFLECTION AREAS OUTSIDE!
