At South Wilford Endowed CE Primary School, the safety and wellbeing of all pupils is a priority. We work closely with parents/carers to ensure that children with allergies and medical conditions can access school safely and fully participate in school life.
Information for Parents
Please inform the school immediately if your child has:
- Any diagnosed allergy
- Anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction)
- Food intolerances requiring dietary adjustments
- Asthma alongside a food allergy
- Any medical condition requiring medication in school
Parents should provide:
- Up-to-date medical information
- Prescribed medication (including in-date adrenaline auto-injectors where required)
- A completed healthcare plan where appropriate
- Emergency contact details
Managing Allergies in School
The school:
- Maintains records of pupils with allergies and medical needs
- Shares essential allergy information with relevant staff
- Provides appropriate staff training
- Follows individual healthcare plans where required
- Has procedures in place for responding to allergic reactions and emergencies
Food and Packed Lunches
To help keep all children safe, parents are asked to:
- Check ingredients carefully before sending food into school
- Follow any specific requests relating to severe allergies within a class or year group
- Avoid sharing food between children
Please note that while the school takes reasonable precautions, it is not possible to guarantee that the school environment is completely free from allergens.
Medication
Children who require emergency medication, such as adrenaline auto-injectors (EpiPens, Jext devices), should have these available in school at all times. These are held in a central location, accessible to all staff within school
Parents are responsible for ensuring medication:
- Is in date
- Is clearly labelled
- Is replaced before expiry
Allergy Awareness
We encourage all members of our school community to:
- Respect the needs of children with allergies
- Wash hands regularly, particularly after eating
- Report concerns to a member of staff immediately
