Spark the flame, light up the world.

PE

Spring 2025

We were extremely lucky to be visited by Olympian and DOUBLE Commonwealth Medalist Jemima Yeats-Brown earlier this term. Jemima is part of the British Judo team and has represented Britain on many occasions.

Jemima ran a sponsored fitness circuit for the whole school and we all had the best time challenging ourselves and having fun. We also got to learn about her inspiring journey into Judo and her important life motto "If you get knocked down, you get right back up again" 💪🏽💪🏾💪🏻 Some children were lucky enough to get to have a go at throwing Jemima down Judo-style too!

Intent

At South Wilford we want our pupils to have the opportunity to take part in and explore a variety of sports whilst promoting enjoyment of physical activity and intern boost their mental health positively. By developing each child’s skill, knowledge and understanding of sports, they will know how to use their bodies effectively and maintain high levels of physical fitness. We want to embed values such as fairness, respect and sportsmanship and ensure each child has the opportunity to compete across a variety of both mixed and gender specific sports both in and out of school.

Implementation

Every lesson starts with a 10-15 minute dynamic warm up that is progressive from EYFS to Year 6, in the difficulty of movements and stretches. This is so that the children are able to develop fitness, strength and flexibility according to their skill level.

Fitness progression can be seen throughout and is an embedded core skill that is worked on through the skills acquisition.

Enjoyment of physical activity is a key strand running through the PE lessons and is an important element to allow for targeted progress and development.
